This landmark announcement came on Friday when the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) signed a landmark 12-year deal that provides the Gulf country the hosting rights for the first Olympic Esports Games in 2025. 

“Saudi Arabia is hugely excited by the prospect of partnering with the IOC and helping to welcome a completely new era for international sport,” said Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, president of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

He further added, “We are proud to support the writing of a new chapter in Olympic history that has the potential to inspire new dreams and ambitions for literally millions of athletes around the world.”

Commenting on this ground-breaking collaboration for the esport games, IOC President Thomas Bach wrote, “We are very fortunate to be able to work with the Saudi NOC on the Olympic Esports Games, because it has great – if not unique – expertise in the field of esports with all its stakeholders. The Olympic Esports Games will greatly benefit from this experience.”

The IOC confirmed that the Olympic Esports Games is part of their 12-year collaboration with the NOC of Saudi Arabia but the organization did not reveal any specific details like the event’s budget, its city, dates and schedule, qualifications for potential players, and game titles.

While the Olympic Esports Games’ are yet to be announced, the IOC is looking to partner with top video game publishers like Epic Games, Capcom, and Riot Games and we could see titles like Rocket League, Street Fighter, and League of Legends featuring the inaugural event.

This partnership highlights Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to transform the nation’s social and economic landscape. Saudi Arabia has played host to over 100 international sports events since 2018. This signifies the country’s position in the esports arena, its robust gaming infrastructure, technological advancement, and its commitment to the global sports community.

Over the next 12 years, Saudi Arabia is set to play a key role in shaping the future and direction of esports, with the Olympic Esports game being held regularly. This collaboration not only showcases the nation’s dedication to excellence and innovation but also solidifies its position as a leader in the esports arena.

According to Riot Games, this new tournament will take place in March next year and will feature five teams. Although the tournament has yet to be officially named, it’s certain that it will be a banger for many. To accommodate for this new championship, all the matches will follow a three-split system.

According to Riot Games, keeping the League of Legends sustainable will be a part of their new strategy. As VALORANT has already done before, Riot Games has proposed a new plan of merging LLA, LCS, and CBLOL and creating a United Americas league. In addition to that, PCS, VCS, LCO, and LJL will be merging to create an APAC league.

The New Major LAN Event

This new LAN event will feature five teams from three main regions, i.e., LEC, LPL, and LCK, along with the newly-formed APAC and Americas leagues. Although every tournament will follow the three-split system, these wil be played on a smaller scale, feature only winners of the five main leagues, and will be an international LAN tournament.

LEC has called the new event the “Winter Split,” as it will take place after the first split. Once the new event finishes, the second split will continue to qualify players for the next event, as it did before. After the MSI has ended, the winning teams will turn to the world championships.

Similar to the ones featured in 2023, every region will include regional championships for the players. Now, each region will possess one slot at this new unnamed event of the new season, two slots at the regionals, and three slots at the world championships. Not only that, but MSI champions and the second-best performing team will also get a slot at the world championships.

To get all of these, you have to complete several missions and earn Prize Points, which you can use to claim Prize Path rewards. Li Xiaomeng “Liooon” is a professional Hearthstone player from China who became the first woman to win the Grandmasters Global Finals. In the 2v2 match, she was up against the previous world champion, Tom. Li “Liooon” is also the winner of the BlizzCon Esports tournament, in which she showcased her extraordinary skills, beating each of her opponents.

Li “Liooon” became a Hearthstone Global Champion by defeating Bloodyface, who was representing the United States in 2019, and claimed the winning prize of $200 000. She became the first woman to bag the trophies while representing mainland China ever since the Hearthstone tournaments were introduced back in 2014.

Her battle name by which she is popular- VKLioon is a combination of her team Victory Key and her individual player ID Li “Liooon” which is a deliberate misspelling of Lion. The player was mocked at the first Hearthstone tournament by a male player, where she went as a backup for the game. The player mocked her by saying that, being a girl, she should not wait in line because this game and tournament are not for them. When Xiaomeng won the championship, she shared this story of hers along with a sentimental message for all female players out there. She encouraged the female players to pursue their dreams related to winning the esports championship, regardless of their gender. After two more years, this newly created organisation recruited a North American Dota 2 team, which was its first step into multi-genre management. For the first time in 2015, Team Liquid saw its turning point with a Team Curse merger.
