Adidas continues to expand its grasp in the Esports industry through various partnerships and deals. In May 2024, Adidas collaborated with 100 Thieves, a North American organization, to launch a co-branded merchandise collection in the market. 

This isn’t the first time Adidas has collaborated with the Esports World Cup Foundation. In July 2023, both parties joined hands in the deal for Gamers8, which was replaced with this year’s Esports World Cup. 

This championship features multiple titles, including League of Legends, Dota2, Apex Legends, and many more. One of the very first titles in this category is Call of Duty, which includes Modern Warfare 3 and the Warzone tournament.

Although Adidas is the official merchandise sponsor of the event, the Foundation has partnered with several other brands as well. Ahead of the inaugural event, they’ve secured partnerships with brands like KitKat, the Esports Awards (Industry Award Show), and Bran’s Coffee.

Mohammed Al Nimer is the Sales Director of the Esports World Cup. he opened up on this deal with Adidas and mentioned that they are proud to be partners with Adidas, which embodies the spirit of innovation and competition.

For Adidas, it’s a chance to connect with a huge fanbase of dedicated and passionate people. This event has a reputation for giving the best drivers an opportunity to become a part of the company’s official esports team,  Scuderia Ferrari HP Esports team. Players will get the chance to become a part of this prestigious team in the LAN final later this year.

Ferrari is one of the world’s most popular racing and automobile brands. This year will be the fifth season of its tournament, and it will focus on amateur drivers around the world. Drivers will be chosen from three main regions: the Americas, EMEA, and the APAC region.

Ferrari HP Esports Series allows drivers to usually compete in three driving simulators: the Assetto Corsa Competizione, the Assetto Corsa, and the iRacing. From the open qualifiers to the last lap of their last race in December, Ferrari will analyze the performance of all 16 drivers. They mentioned that they’ll also look into each player’s consistency throughout the tournament. At the end of the season, Ferrari will determine the best drivers based on their overall performance and consistency.

Gergő Báldi is a Scuderia Ferrari Esports team driver, and he stated in an interview that this championship has always been very challenging and competitive. Báldi also stressed the fact that every motorsports enthusiast in the world must try their talent in this championship.

3. Cloud9 are Ax1Le, Boombl4;  this year has failed as the Cloud9 CS2 superteam experiment is officially looking dead. With is heading to Virtus .pro, while Perfecto and HObbit are now leading and occupying the bench. Cloud9 is ready to rebuild around Ax1Le and Boombl4.

4. ENCE are gla1ve, sdy, Goofy, Kylar, podi.  Dycha for sdy is a straight upgrade, with the Ukrainian consistently impressing throughout this time with Monte. Bringing Podi in for Hades might look strange from the outside, but the youngster has consistently impressed for ENCE Academy.

5. Falcons are Dupreeh, Magisk, Snappi, SunPayus, Maden. BOROS has been out of Falcons for a while now, and they permanently replaced with Dupreeh.

6. Fnatic are KRIMZ, afro, body, MATYS, and blameF. After getting out of Astralis, blameF has joined Fnatic. It is a very powerful move for the legendary organization, adding much-needed firepower to the roster.

7. G2 are HooXi, Niko and HuNterY, HuNter. G2 makes the initial change by removing nexa, and it is rumored that HooXi will be on line.

8. GamerLegion are Snax, volt, aNdu, sl3nd, FLA4MUS, and added acoR and Keoz. This CS2 roster change is an investment in youth and makes FL4MUS, the star attraction, along with Snax.

9. Heroic are Juush, TeSeS, NertZ, Kyxsan, and Degster. After a rough period, Nicoodoz has been removed from Heroic. The AWPing style was the wrong fit for this roster, and it was employed with Degster. 

10. Liquids are YEKINDAR, Twistzz, skillz, NAF. The LIQUID superteam has removed its AWP IGL, and Skullz is expected soon, with rumors of a FURIA transfer rumbling. It seems that CadiaN has not been given the freedom to IGL in their preferred style.

11. Monte are STYKO, hAdji, Woro2k, DemQQ, kRaSnaL. Gizmy and Ryu are back to Monte Gen, STYKO arrivals from Apeks, and French rifler hAdji is part of Monte temporarily.

12. Ninjas in Pyjamas are maxster, REZ, ALEX, r1nkle, isak. After years of floundering, NIP  have returned to their Swedish roots, REZ and LEX remain in their previous roster.

The organization created the “IOC eSports Commission” in September 2023, and after the first month of its creation, they announced their plans to organize an Olympic esports game later on. The executive board has organized the Olympic Games in a variety of ways in recent years. Previously, they organized the Olympic virtual series and the Olympic eSports Week. However, despite the likes of Rocket Leagues, Street Fighter, Gran Turismo, and NBA 2K23, the events received poor viewership.

According to the IOC executive board, the first partner in the Olympic esports games will be the International Federation of Esports, which is already engaged in the e-version of its sports. In June 2024, they also partnered with ESIC to combat misconduct in esports.

If the IOC members vote favorably for the Olympic esports games, then there will be no obstacles or problems in the creation of the games. Additionally, the IOC announced that a “completely new dedicated structure within the IOC” will be responsible for the esports games, and it will separate from the organizational and financial model for the Olympic games.

IOC President Thomas Bach said, “With the creation of Olympic esports games, the IOC is taking a major step forward and keeping up with the pace of the digital revolution. We are very excited about how enthusiastically the esports community represented in our esports commission has engaged with the initiative. This is further proof of the attractivity of the Olympic brand and the value it stands for.”

The IOC Executive Board will discuss the creation of esports games in the next session, which will happen in Paris along with the 2024 Olympic Games; however, the decision will come with some notice. Olympic games have a set of values that all sports must stick to, and their game lineup is also different from all the other esports game competitions. Games like Counter-Strike and League of Legends have potentially violent themes; these are discarded from the Olympic Esports event.

Valve has plans to put an end to the franchise-style league in Counter-Strike since last year. Now, the company is conducting changes in BLAST format and has a plan to open up a new esports ecosystem at the start of 2025. The company claimed that the BLAST Premier current format, the ‘partner team’ structure, will continue alongside a few slots open to non-partner teams vie qualifiers.

BLAST’s New Plans To Change BLAST Premier

The BLAST current structure contains 16 permanent teams who bought in and received guaranteed investments. According to the new 2025 BLAST Premier plan, the event will contain 6 standalone tournaments that will be categorized into two seasons. The first event will take place in Lisbon and London, and the company is planning to release more sets in the future. 

Additionally, the tournament organizers will have introduced the BLAST Bounty for the top 30 CS2 teams and two wildcards. Each team earning half of the bounty will benefit with guaranteed payouts. The remaining bounty will be carried over into the next patch and will added to the existing bounty of the tournament.

The organizer of the tournament also unveiled the BLAST Open, where 16 teams under Valve Global Ranking will have to compete with 4 qualifier teams from BLAST Premier. The Open will be played from BLAST’s studio in Copenhagen before moving to the finals organized in various cities. In addition, the Premier format will also contain BLAST Rivals, where the top 8 ranked teams will battle with each other to win the whole tournament.

Investments And Tournament Partners Of BLAST Premier

 Andrew Haworth, VP of Ecosystem for BLAST, Valve, and Riot Games, has commented in the news that 2025 is going to be the most exciting year for BLAST. The tournament organizer announced an investment of $6 million directly in the teams through a new payment structure. The company has not revealed any details about the payment structure and price pool.

The organizers have also said that BLAST Premier is one of the best and freshest formats for the fans and players that will maintain the excitement throughout the tournament. The world’s best team for Valve Ranking and regional qualifiers will compete on a global platform for the dynamic prize pool. With this new format, Counter-Strike expects to enter the esports scene, including DOTA 2, Rainbow Six Seige, Rocket League, and Fortnite.

As the Esports Awards announced its partnership with EWC for three upcoming years, there’s been an uproar in the esports industry. EWC is an esports festival that is backed by the Saudi Arabian government, to which several organisers have contributed. The initiative for this multi-title esports festival was taken by the Saudi Arabian Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman.

Since the Saudi government is involved in the EWC event, the prize pool that is kept is the highest in the history of esports. However, the country has been criticised by other stakeholders and members of the gaming community because of their stance on several political factors. Women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and censorship are a few of them to be mentioned, which is why stakeholders are feeling uneasy about having them as investors.

They even claim that their expansion in EWC is for “esportswashing” and that they want to distract the world from its human rights records. As the announcement of the partnership was made, many notable personalities like PGL CEO Silviu Stroie, esports host Caleb Simmons, Caster Parker MacKay, and on-air talent Thom ‘F.’ Badinger resigned from their respective posts in the panel.

Many other personalities, like host Alex Goldenboy Mendez, Sean Rogers, and more, took X as a medium to express their disagreement with this decision and also shared their personal views. However, the Esports Awards CEO, Michael Ashford, replied to these backlashes that it’s a good opportunity for them to be recognized globally and gain a unique position in the gaming ecosystem.

So, although the decision is not well-accepted by many people related to esports and gaming, the partnership is still going to be established for the next three years. The event and festival is fully funded and backed by the Saudi government and EWC is scheduled to be held in Riyadh.
