Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Adventure is a new indy game that is coming to PC and Xbox later this year. Recently, the gameplay trailer of Indiana Jones was revealed, and it’s created buzz on the internet. Lucasfilm interviewed the game director Jerk Gustafsson, and they asked him some game-relevant questions, which was very impressive.
After the trailer release, fans had a little bit of a problem with the first-person game, as today, most games are third-person. It is very unusual to see an open-world game like Indiana Jones in the first person. Lucasfilm also asked the same question to the director.
As Jerk Gustafsson stated on Lucasfilm, the main reason the indy game is in first-person is because MachineGame is popular for making first-person games. It’s in their DNA. According to Jerk Gustafsson, “First-person gameplay is part of MachineGames’ DNA, and we wanted to see how we could use this to create a really immersive experience around stepping into the shoes of the world’s most famous archaeologist.”
He continued “It also separates our game from many other action-adventure titles, making it a unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else. However, we still want to show Indy as much as possible, so we have a seamless flow between first-person gameplay and third-person actions, events, and cinematics.”
The game’s story is written by MachineGame, Bethesda, and Todd Howard. Lucasfilm didn’t have any contribution to the story. Still, the game developers took feedback from them to stay true to Indiana Jones.
It’s very fascinating to see the game director being a big Indy fan as only a fan can know what’s wrong and what’s bad in a game. I believe that only a hardcore fan like Jerk Gustafsson can make games based on franchises or films. The game is set to be launched this year and will be available for both PC and Xbox players.
