To celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Microsoft has announced several new accessibility updates for Xbox and Windows gamers. This includes the pre-order release of the ByoWave Proteus modular controller, a “snap and play” device designed for gamers with disabilities as part of Microsoft’s program.
Microsoft collaborated with the Irish Company Byowave to make this controller, and as per reports, the Gaming Controller will be released this fall.
The Proteus controller supports both PC and Xbox, allowing gamers to snap together its various components in “over 100 million traditional and custom configurations with LED lighting variations.” This gives players who have difficulty using regular gaming controllers an opportunity to reconfigure the device into something more comfortable and easier to use than a normal controller.
This unique controller consists of several linkable blocks that form its body, including a variety of recognizable buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and pads that can be configured in multiple ways. Press photos showcase removable faceplates, various configurations for holding the device, and vibrant LED lighting.
There is one major drawback with controllers, which is its price of $299. The gaming controller is currently available for pre-order at a “VIP Price” of $255 for a limited number of units, but its regular retail MSRP is $299. Despite the price this product sounds amazing for those who struggle with standard controllers, but they have to lower the price.
