What is Hi-Fi Rush, and why is Microsoft getting hate for it?

Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best video games of 2023, which gained positive reviews as well as being one of the best games of Microsoft to come out in 2023. After a year, the game is trending, both for good and bad reasons, which I will discuss in this report. 

What is Hi-Fi Rush? Is it good?

Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythmic-based action game. The game is developed by Tango Gameworks and directed by John Johannes. It was released in January 2023 and received positive reviews due to its vibrant animation, combat, music, and stylish gameplay. The game reached up to 3 million player base by August 2023. The game was so successful that Microsoft released it on PlayStation 5. 

One thing that makes Hi-Fi Rush a one-of-a-kind game is its Stylish Visual and fun gameplay. The game features colorful, comic book-inspired graphics that make it energetic and vibrant, while its fun gameplay includes Rhythm-Based combat. 

The game also won several awards as well, Hi-Fi Rush won best sound and music awards in the CEDEC Awards, The Game Awards 2023, New York Game Awards, and 24th Game Developers Choice Awards. Hi-Fi Rush also won the prestigious BAFTA Game Awards for Animation.

In 2024, Microsoft announced that they will release 4 Xbox-exclusive games on PS5, as they are moving away from the idea of exclusivity. Hi-Fi Rush is the first Xbox Exclusive game to be released on PS5. Microsoft isn’t getting hate for releasing Hi-Fi Rush on rival consoles but for a completely different reason.

Why is Microsoft getting hate for Hi-Fi Rush?

In May’s first week, Microsoft closed down a number of gaming studios, like Redfall developers Arkane Studios, including Hi-Fi Rush developers Tango Gameworks. This was shocking for gamers, as Tango Gameworks gave a critically acclaimed game the previous year, which received many accolades and awards.

This is why Microsoft is getting huge backlash and hate from both critics and gamers. When talking about the closing down of game studios, Xbox Executives said that the company wants small games that can give them awards and prestige. Which was ironic because Hi-Fi Rush did the same thing for them.

Currently, the game is getting reversed review-bombing by fans on Steam, hopping for Microsoft to re-open Tango Gameworks.
