BeReal COO Romain Salzman said that these staff members are deeply impacted by this sudden layoff because they worked under tremendous pressure and built the working platform for the users while growing it in 18 months. This year, the total number of employees at BeReal was 60, which has now decreased to 32.

The spokesperson of Voodoo said that they want to focus on BeReal’s growth in a sustainable way and, thus, have made the decision to let these staff members go. They also added that although it was tough for them to make such an announcement, they had to do so for the betterment of the company. The company has decided to support the teams and individuals who were laid off as their contribution has been valuable all this while. As Voodoo has acquired BeReal, it aims to create a place where users can connect with the people who are close to it and maintain the real mission and values of BeReal.

Nintendo Switch has revealed its financial report which shows that it has sold more than 140 million units of the handheld and its variants. Before the current financial year ends in March 2025, Nintendo is to announce the details regarding a successor to the system, but its support for the original Switch is still strong. 

The latest updates of Nintendo Switch are:

• The sharing options like “Post to Twitter” from the Album menu on their console have been removed
• The option to link a user’s account to the social media platform has been removed.
• The option to link social media accounts from the friend’s suggestions menu has been removed.
• The option to post screenshots taken in the popular “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” which is the most timeless fighting game ever made, from the album to the Smash World app, is removed.
• The option to link X (formerly Twitter) from Settings to “Posting to Social Media” was removed.

Nintendo announced in May that it would discontinue integration with Twitter, which introduced major changes to how its API could be accessed in 2023. Twitter now reportedly charges up to $210,000 every month, or around $2.5 million per year, for access to social media.

The previous 18.0.1 system update of Nintendo’s Switch family fixed an issue that caused wireless access points to become undetectable for some users who tried to set up a new network. A most recent update for Switch executed general system stability improvements that aim to enhance the user’s experience. Despite launching over seven years ago, Nintendo’s handheld still exhibits some issues, like a battery problem that can make a switch unpayable.

Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, previously confirmed that his company would make an announcement regarding the Switch’s successor, commonly referred to as the Switch 2. Online gambling and casinos are the fastest-growing betting platforms, and millions worldwide use them to explore thrilling actions and profitable outcomes. The latest data reveals that online gaming and casino retrospective GST cases listed in SC today involve payments of thousands of crores calculated at 28 percent of the bet’s face value.
This official notification was taken to the Supreme Court, which listed GamesKraft and a batch of matters today before the 3 judges’ bench headed by DY Chandrachud, judge of the Chief Justice of India. Here, the hearing on Friday finalises that the batch of cases will be listed after the summer vacation in July 2024, when the court opens. 
Further, tomorrow’s listing is to take directions from the bench on the procedural aspects, where matters may be heard for a few minutes. The Supreme Court currently holds a cluster of 30 petitions from online real-money gaming firms. 
In April, it transferred to itself 27 writ petitions where the decision is pending across 9 different state high courts. Also, they are challenging the levy of 28% GST on all forms of online real-money gaming with a retrospective effect.

What Decisions Were Made By The Supreme Court Of India? 

The same announcement was made in December 2023, when the apex court declined to halt these notices but agreed to hear the plea. These gaming firms face 71 show-cause notices for GST evasion of Rs 1.12 lakh crore in 2022-23, excluding interest and penalties.  

Here, the penalty of 100% of tax demand, which could surpass 2.4 crore, including interest, would be charged under Section 74. Moreover, earlier data reveals that on October 1, 2023, a 28 percent GST was levied on the full face value of online gaming bets by the GST Council, where review was taken after 6 months.  

The Supreme Court also sought a response from the Director General of goods and services tax, where petitioners were Dream 11, Games 24/7, and Head Digital Work. It is said that in September last year, a supreme court imposed a stay of operations of Karnataka high court order where GST filed officers notices Rs. 1.12 lakh crore to online gaming companies for alleged tax evasions and facing legal challenges.

Earlier, the Karnataka high court squashed a GST notification of Rs 21,000 crore on hold due to online, electronic, or digital rummy played on Gameskraft not being taxable as a betting or gambling industry. 

After meeting in July and August 2023, it was recommended that online gambling and casinos, along with horse racing, be charged 28% on full face value without differentiating games of skills from games of chance. This became effective in October 2023, and currently, the prospective application is not being challenged.
