Video games are not just fun to play games that many people opt for as time passes. Now, the gaming industry has become so vast that many gamers made it as a career and earned thousands of dollars. Besides being a career opportunity, video games are also a great way to level up learning skills and proceed towards a goal.

Kris Alexander, a professor of video game design and professional gamers, explained the benefits of playing games in the TED Talks show. According to his years of experience, he explained that playing video games can enhance focus and attention and have a clear goal in life. Furthermore, he concluded that video game components can be implemented in traditional education to cater to different learning styles and connect with the students in a better way.

How Audio, Text, And Visuals Are Evolving Different Learning Styles?

When Kris was in their senior year of university, around 2004, he was not able to concentrate on the class lectures. As an oral learner, he was not able to pay attention to the text and the audio of the teacher at the same time, and it was a distraction for him. After so much experimentation, he founded a video game as a medium to stay focused in class.

He explained this as a Cognitive Overload where audio, text, and video are used together, which can be understood easily and can be memorized for years. So, he suggests using such technology in traditional education to level up the way of learning. He further explained that each element in the video lecture is complementary, and eliminating any one of them can cause cognitive overload.

How Video Game Components Are Helping Students To Focus On Their Career?

Video games are complex blends of audio, video, text, and interactivity that can induce focus. These enjoyment factors can uplift the student’s motivation, which is desperately needed in the classroom. According to Kris Alexander, video games can immerse us, enhance concentration power, and provide clear objectives with demonstrated outputs.

While playing online with the students, Kris helps them understand the storyline of the games and is aware of the history, sexism, racism, corporate culture, and tokenism. With the introduction of video game streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch, students can interact with other players and learn extraordinary skills from them. Further, he explained that video game components are embedded in several industries where dentists are using AR (Augmented Reality)  for treatment and VR (Virtual Reality) in sports to enhance the match experience.
