GEPL Season 1: Winners and Highlights 

Esports tournaments are seeing a surge in India. GEPL is one of the Indian esports tournaments, which hold the potential to become popular in a few years. Esports in India were only Battle Royal Games such as BGMI, Free Fire, and Call of Duty. However, it is changing with more esports tournaments making their entry into India’s gaming market. GEPL is one of them.

Global e-Cricket Premier League aka GEPL is an esport tournament based on the popular Indian game Real Cricket 24. The skill-based cricket simulation game Real Cricket 24 is very popular in India with more than 10 Million downloads in the play store. It’s not the first time Real Cricket 24 hosted a tournament, they have also hosted small tournaments. 

The GEPL tournament was their first big tournament to make cricket esports popular. GEPL Season 1 began on November 26, 2023, and concluded on December 9.

The tournament was hosted in Balewadi Stadium, Pune. Real Cricket 24 was also announced along the way. More than 2 Lakh people registered to play in the tournament, later top 100 players were chosen to take part in the team-based tournament. The teams that participated in GEPL were London Rhinos, Dubai Vipers, Delhi Sharks, New York Apes, Kolkata Hawks, Mumbai Grizzlies, Sydney Panthers, and Chennai Wolves. 

The final was played on December 9 between Dubai Vipers and New York Apes, where Dubai Vipers emerged as the winner of GEPL Season 1. Dubai Vipers took the 2.51 crore prize money home. 

Numerous players were also awarded for their performance in GEPL Season 1. Soumyadipta Biswas from Delhi Vipers won the award for scoring 377 runs, hitting 20 sixes, and 37 fours. Manish Kumar Ray from Dubai Vipers won the Highest Wicket taker award for sending batsman pavilion 15 times.

GEPL Season 1 streamed live on Jio Cinema and telecasted on Sports18. Which was incredible for a new esports tournament. 

GEPL plays a big role in improving Indian esports. GEPL was the first-ever cricket esports tournament. Cricket is a popular game and an esports tournament based on it can give more exposure to brilliant cricket e-players. GEPL can become India’s EA FC Pro, where cricket gamers can take part to win up to 2 Crore money.
