Reports show that Indian gamers earn over 12 lakhs annually by just playing games. While mobile gaming and PC gaming are already popular in India, esports is also growing exponentially in the country. Esports wasn’t a legit career in India, but now it is a viable career option. Serious gamers not only play games, but they also participate in various esports tournaments. As esports and gaming grow in India, sponsors are paying hefty amounts of money to players.
As per the reports published by HP, half percent of serious gamers (esports players) are earning between 6 lakhs to 12 lakhs yearly, just by following their passion. HP invited 3500 people from 15 Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities, including 500 parents. 70 percent of participants were PC gamers, and only 30 percent were mobile gamers.
The survey also highlighted that 75 percent of the participants were male, and only 25 percent were female. Gamers are now coming more from non-metro cities, the survey highlighted that 59 percent of participants were from Tier-2 cities. More than 75% of participants belonged to GenZ, where 67% of participants were millennials.
As per a report, players in Esports grew exponentially between 2021 and 2022. As per the reports published by Statista Esports market, India is set to reach $124.8 Million in 2024. Due to the growth of Esports, OTT and satellite channels are investing more in Esports. Star Sports, one of the biggest sports channels in India, live telecasted an esports tournament. Considering its popularity, sponsors are paying huge amounts of money to esports players to promote their products.
