Gaming is exponentially growing in India, all thanks to YouTube and gaming creators. If you are from Generation Z, then you started your gaming channel, but it lasted up to two months. Gaming has always been the favorite of Indians, India is mainly a mobile-focused market in gaming. With only 9% of people playing on PCs and 4% on consoles.

YouTube has become the most popular platform in India to showcase your skills in gaming. It has paved a path to gamers earning 1 Lakh and more by just uploading gameplay and streaming live on YouTube.

In an interview with MoneyControl, gaming creators have shared their opinions on YouTube, how they are making money, YouTube algorithms, and how YouTube can improve their site.

Making Money From YouTube

Gagandeep Singh, aka Sikhwarrior, a gaming content creator with more than 100k subscribers said “There’s enough audience in YouTube to maintain a steady flow of income.” “You have to make your audience happy so that they become a member of your channel or do super chat on your live stream.”

A YouTube Content Creator earns money in 3 Ways –

  • YouTube Partner Program – After joining the YOUTUBE partner program, you can earn money from ads, which will be shown in your videos. The more views your video has the more you will earn.
  • SuperChat and Membership – Users can support their favorite creators by donating money on their live stream or joining their membership.
  • Sponsorship – Companies pay creators to promote their products.

A point to be noted is that the earnings fluctuate a lot if you aren’t an established creator, “You need to be established to have a study source of income, it also feels risky sometimes’, says Ankkita C, a YouTube gaming content creator with 339k subscribers.

The main reason behind this is India is a mobile-heavy market, people prefer to watch gameplay videos of those games which they play. It is why Indian users won’t watch gameplay videos of Palworld or Helldivers 2. It’s exceptional when you become an established creator, your audience will watch your videos no matter what you upload.

“You need to hustle, to build your audience base,” says Shobith Roy aka TbOne.

Which is Better: YouTube or Twitch?

Twitch has been giving tough competition to YouTube since its release. So what do gamers prefer?

“YouTube has potential as it’s already pre-installed on your phone. Twitch is good for live streaming, but it’s still hard for new gamers on Twitch. In YouTube your channel mainly depends on your video content, not live streaming, good video content can grow your channel, but live streaming discoverability is very bad compared to Twitch” Singh says.

“Twitch is a go-to platform for gamers compared to YouTube, they provide a lot of tools and support to gamers in comparison to YouTube. YouTube isn’t for gaming, it’s a multi-content platform” Rai told MoneyControl.

Improvement Gamers Want In YouTube

Gamers share their thoughts on what YouTube can improve on their platform.

“More Discoverability of Live streaming, downloading clips from your stream in Creator studio, Better quality of 1080p (60FPS), Membership gifting option, and Giveaway features from the studio” commented Singh.

“YouTube needs to fix their problem of Notification, most of my subscribers don’t get notifications of my latest videos, even after clicking the notification of all videos” states Ankita.

“YouTube needs to add some advanced tools and features like Twitch,” says Rai.
