Krafton, best known for their popular battle royal game BGMI (PUBG), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat and the sports and entertainment company TransStadia Technologies. Through this collaboration with Krafton and TransStadia, the Government of Gujarat is aiming to uplift the gaming and esports industry of Gujarat.
Gaming and esports are exponentially growing in India with the support of various state governments. The government of Karnataka collaborated with Games24x7 in their GameTech Accelerate Program to support innovative gaming Startups to uplift the Karnataka gaming industry.
Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, expressed gratitude for collaborating with the Government of Gujarat. According to a report on MoneyControl, Sohn stated “We are proud of this collaboration and excited to combine Gujarat’s vibrant growth environment and our experience in game development and esports, we aim to create exceptional opportunities for talent development, infrastructure enhancement, and community engagement.”
The Government of Gujarat also shared their excitement about the collaboration with Krafton, showing their dedication to nurturing digital and economic growth through the collaboration. Sh. Harsh Sanghavi, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Sports, Youth and Culture Activities, highlighted the importance of the partnership for Gujarat’s esports industry and its youth.
In a statement quoted by StoryBoard18, he commented “This collaboration with Krafton will accelerate our efforts to position Gujarat as a hub for indigenous and interactive esports. The Government of Gujarat is eager to witness this collaboration’s positive impact on our youth and the esports gaming community.”
Krafton has been investing in Indian startups since 2021, the company has already invested USD 160 Million. Krafton intends to invest an additional USD 150 Million over the next two to three years. Krafton is helping Indian gaming startups through their Gaming Incubator Program.
