This action follows a period where the servers were temporarily offline due to ongoing technical issues. Fans are now concerned about losing hundreds of thousands of player creations that were not saved locally.

LittleBigPlanet’s official Twitter account posted a notice where they stated “Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the game servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2023, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely.”

They also said that those users who have stored content locally on their PS4 will remain available, but all online services, including access to other players’ creations, are no longer available for LittleBigPlanet 3 users.

The game released in 2014 gained popularity due to its creativity and flexibility and the ability to create your levels. Players can create their level, as well as share it with other players through the servers. LittleBigPlanet 3 users are disheartened by the current update.

The PS3 version of LittleBigPlanet 3 servers was shut down in 20121 due to DDOS attacks. However, the servers for the OS4 version remained active until January 2024. Sony temporarily deactivated the servers of the this game in January due to malicious mods and potential security breaches.

They even posted at the time and assured players that they were aware of the problem and were actively working to address it to ensure a safe and enjoyable gaming experience. Some users were also concerned that game will be PS4 servers might get deactivated like the PS3 servers.

LittleBigPlanet isn’t the only game to shut down their servers. The game is part of a broader trend where online services for older games are being retired by various gaming companies.

Nintendo recently discontinued online multiplayer services for Wii U and 3DS games, which affected games like Splatoon and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Ubisoft faced massive criticism for not only shutting down servers for the always-online racing game The Crew but also revoking PC player’s licenses to the game itself.
